Nrityanjalie
The guru - Anjalie Gupta
Anjalie Gupta is a leading exponent of Kathak in India. She has received her training from gurus - Pandit Hanuman Prasadji, Pandit Kanhaiyalalji and later by late guru Mohanrao Kalyanpurkar at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA).
She runs Nrityanjalie, a school of classical dance in Mumbai, where traning is imparted in pure Kathak style.
Through Nrityanjalie she constantly thrives to preserve Kathak - a major Indian dance form and one of the most dynamic theatre arts in the world.
Besides the traditional form, she has constantly experimented with various themes. Anjalie has been able to weave the various folk dance forms in her own unique style, retaining its originality and yet incorporating a strong influence of Kathak. This has won her an invitation to the World Folk Dance Festival three times.
Many of Gupta's trained students have now become artists of their own right on stage and TV. Her charm and affection captivates even very young children into learning traditional Kathak, a challenge in the age when they are constantly lured by Bollywood and Western dance forms. Anjalie's mission is to bring little feet into the mesmerizing world of Kathak in a way that they appreciate and love the dance form. She feels this is the only way in which this dance form can be kept alive in the next generation.
With The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation's support, students from Nrityanjalie have participated in the World Folk Dance festival held at Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
